Practical Nursing Admissions Requirements

 Practical Nursing (PN) Program Admission Requirements

Williams Technical College (WTC) limits each cohort to a maximum of 36 students. Admission is based on a point system, where applicants are scored on various criteria. The top 36 students on the point scale may be admitted into the program.

Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • Previous academic experience

  • Standardized exam scores (Entrance Exam and Accuplacer Exams)

  • Healthcare certifications and Experience

  • Personal statement

  • Face-to-face interview

Enrollment Process

Admission into the PN program is divided into two phases. Each phase must be successfully completed for an applicant to be considered for enrollment. However, completing both phases does not guarantee admission, as final selections are based on the ranking of applicants according to the point system.

Phase I: Pre-Admission Requirements

Applicants must complete the following steps:

  1. Interview with an Admissions Counselor

  2. Complete the General Application for Admission

  3. Take the General Entrance Exam (scheduled through the Admissions Counselor)

  4. Submit a valid Driver’s License or Government-issued ID

  5. Provide a Social Security Card

  6. Submit a High School Diploma or Official Transcript

  7. Write and submit a Personal Statement

  8. Achieve passing scores on the Accuplacer Next Gen Exam

  9. Submit current American Heart BLS Certification (CPR)

  10. Complete a State Background Check (available through Williams Technical College)

    • If admitted, another background screening may be required by the PN Board prior to official acceptance as well as a final background prior to completing the program.

    • LSBPNE Compliance Requirement

      ·       Applicants must not be currently serving under any court-imposed order of:

      ·       Supervised probation

      ·       Work release

      ·       School release

      ·       Parole in conjunction with any felony conviction(s), plea agreement, or any agreement pursuant to the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 893 (LAC Title 46, XLVII, §937. A.8)

Placement Score Requirements

Applicants must submit approved placement scores as deemed by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSBPNE).

The following approved admission tests are required for entry into a Louisiana Practical Nursing Program. Minimum required scores for mathematics, reading, and language are established by the Louisiana Administrative Code XLVII, Subpart 1. Applicants should refer to this code for additional rules and regulations regarding practical nursing programs.

ACCUPLACER Next Generation Testing at WTC

  • Williams Technical College (WTC) offers the ACCUPLACER Next Generation exam on scheduled testing days.

  • Students who wish to take the ACCUPLACER at WTC must schedule their exam and pay the required testing fees.

  • Students are allowed to retest up to two times, for a total of three (3) attempts.

  • Testing fees may apply.

  • Scores may not be released.

Applicants must meet the minimum required scores on one of the following approved exams to be eligible for entry into the Practical Nursing (PN) program.

Accuplacer Next Generation:

  • 243 Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics

  • 250 Reading Comprehensive

  • 241 Writing

Phase II Admission Requirements

Upon successful completion of Phase I, applicants must fulfill the following requirements before final acceptance into the Practical Nursing (PN) program:

  1. Submit College Transcripts and any relevant Certifications

  2. Submit Immunization Records

  3. Provide a Birth Certificate

  4. Complete a Drug Screening

    • If admitted, 2 additional drug screens may be required before clinical rotations

  5. Provide a Tuberculosis (TB) Exam Result

    • If admitted, an additional TB exam may be required before clinical rotations

      Interview with the PN Program Coordinator

6. Interview with the PN Program Coordinator

Final Acceptance Notification

  • Students will be notified of their acceptance into the PN program by letter via postal service or email.

  • Once the acceptance letter is received, students will have 7 days to respond and sign their acceptance.
